Alvin Weil Murder Investigation

Back in the 60s and 70s my father raced sailboats off the coast of Florida. One of the people he raced with from time to time was Alvin Weil. Weil was head of the Roosevelt Raceway on Long Island in the 50s and 60s and very likely had mob connections. He lived on Long Boat Key in Sarasota not far from where I lived as a child and my dad has several great stories about Weil's exuberance after winning races and the storms they fought off out in the Gulf. Weil was shot at close range and killed while walking his dog on an October night in 1974 on Long Boat Key. Here are a few news articles and police records from the case, still unsolved, that were sent to my dad last year by the Sarasota Police Department at his request. Here's a photo of Weil and a Sports Illustrated article about the Roosevelt Raceway from July 1966.
