Instructional Technology

Instructional technology and instructional design are an interesting amalgam of ideas and technologies. Communication between people is as the heart of it all and that is what I enjoy most about it. Below is a list of courses I took at Virginia Tech.

Clinical: This course was developed for graduate students interested in working on 'real' projects. I developed a web site for a drug education class. (Link to drug education course: http://www.chre.vt.edu/~/kredican/EDHL3534MM/temp_index.htm)

Media design: This was an interesting course where we studied how to most effectively communicate using different forms of media. I developed a sixty minute presentation on the history of the Internet.

Principles of instructional design: In this class I studied the foundations of designing instruction. I also designed  web based instruction for teaching people how computers work.

Visual learning: In this class I studied the varied theories and applications of visual communication. I worked on a multimedia project comparing early television advertising with early computer advertising.

Telecommunications: In this class the students were divided into two groups. One group studied technology and the other group designed a module for instruction. At the end of the semester the groups got together and worked out a strategy to implement the module using a technology or technologies.

Electronic publishing:This was an excellent class that really put my knowledge of web and graphic software into hyper-speed. I developed this site as a final project for the class.

Philosophy

I got my Bachelors in philosophy at Ferrum College. Though I studied philosophers from Thales to Sartre most of my work was done in the area of continental philosophy. Within this area I studied: Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Sartre, Husserl, Camus and others. You will need Acrobat Reader to view the PDF files below.
