At the mere mention of the term siKe rock most folks turn livid, rosy cheeks steam,  puffing begins in short snorts from their nostrils...Punk is acceptable bubble gum can be considered a cute trend but aCid rock?...oh no never!!!

The modern hatred of siKe music I think is centered around a confusion over the exact nature of what it is...The Worlds Most Misunderstood Music.

  Consider that this misunderstood consciousness gave us: rock&roll a revolutionary force (social, political, sexual) the concept album, lp covers as art, lyrics as poetry, and the notion that rock was intelligent as blues or jazz.

Although it evolved during a transition around the summer and fallof1966, their is no exact era when Sike music began. The very idea of "underground" divided the rock culture. Punks and hippies were never enemies.   At  the  time  both  were explorers like fellow scientists testing a mind boggling sound... Everybody, except the squares, ignored that the fact that the chief catalyst for this liberated consciousness was a chemical called lysergic aCId dietHylamide, that unleashed psychotic thoughts overthe U.S.

But some theorists maintain that the Sike sound would have emerged even without the LSD, as an attack, in the form of a visionary quest against the growing youth culture. With pure desire for unbridled dementia as its catalyst siKe first crystallized in  . Around 1960 folkies began growing their hair and taking druGs as a way of retaliating against redneck traditions.

A young psychologymajor Tommy Hall  in a band called the Lingsmen, and a high school drop out Roky Erickson  in a band called the Spades,came like comets from outer space cork-screwing out of control when the two collided, this mystical act begat the messianic 13Th Floor Elevators.

Bands migrated there for a freedom and an active interplay between the performer and the audience other parts of the country could not offer. Thus formed the Hippy Era: free love,concerts and the interminable jams...All is old history now but not to down the importance of Psychedelic musical trip that's a part of of many music styles of today...
